Trust is a big concept for a small person to grasp. These ten verses are short enough to memorize and simple enough to talk through together, whether it's at bedtime, in the car, or around the dinner table.
1. Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."
A good starting point for explaining that we don't have to know everything or have every answer. God already does.
2. Isaiah 26:3
"You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!"
Kids understand worry more than we sometimes realize. This verse is a simple way to show them what to do with it.
3. Psalm 56:3
"But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you."
Short enough for even young kids to memorize, and honest about the fact that trusting God doesn't mean never being scared.
4. Jeremiah 17:7
"But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence."
A good verse for talking about what it means to feel sure about something, even when you can't see how it will turn out.
5. Psalm 9:10
"Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you."
This one connects trust to relationship. The more kids learn who God is, the easier trust becomes.
6. Isaiah 41:10
"Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."
Great for first-day-of-school nerves, new experiences, or anything that feels a little too big.
7. Psalm 62:8
"O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge."
A gentle way to teach kids that it's okay to tell God exactly how they feel, not just the tidy version.
8. John 14:1
"Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me."
Jesus says this to his own followers when they're scared and confused, which makes it easy to relate to for a child going through something hard.
9. Romans 15:13
"I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit."
A slightly longer verse, good for older kids, that ties trust directly to hope and joy rather than just "being good."
10. Psalm 37:5
"Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you."
A simple two-step verse that's easy to turn into a habit: hand it over, then trust.
